  • McCallum Family, LLC v. Winger, 221 P.3d 69 (Colo. Ct. App. 2009) — Establishing principle in Colorado that limited liability veil may be pierced as against a non-owner, if such non-owner treated the entity as an alter ego, abused the limited liability format, and exercised dominion and control over the company all resulting in defeating rightful claim of third party creditor.
  • Pacheco v. Whiting Farms, Inc., 365 F.3d 119 (10th Cir. 2004) — Defeating Fair Labor Standards Act retaliation claim on basis of causation.
  • Rodriguez v. Whiting Farms, Inc., 360 F.3d 1180 (10th Cir. 2004) — Refining definition of secondary and primary agriculture under agricultural exemption to Fair Labor Standards Act to include the preparation of chicken pelts solely for use of feathers, rather than preparing the chickens for consumption.

About Sam Starritt

Sam is an experienced trial lawyer with significant transactional experience, and he has negotiated many favorable settlements for his clients. He has obtained six-figure jury verdicts and defeated similar claims for them. Sam handles a variety of complex civil matters, including professional negligence, commercial disputes, business torts, securities and commodities matters, noncompete and trade secret disputes, and financial matters.

In addition, Sam has served as lead counsel in multiple business and real estate transactions involving several million dollars and multiple issues, including the financing arrangements, options, leasing, and entity structuring.

An active author and editor, Sam has published articles for Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, served as Senior Editor and Comment Author for the Land and Water Law Review in law school, and has contributed as author and editor to a variety of other legal publications and presentations.

Outside the law, one of Sam's primary personal interests is distance running, and he's participated in several marathons. A third-generation native Coloradan, he also enjoys other outdoor activities, such as skiing, hiking, and exploring the Colorado backcountry. Sam's cultural interests are art, history, and playing the piano.
