Willie DeFord, partner with Dufford Waldeck, is a trial lawyer and mediator, helping clients resolve civil disputes in settlement conferences and courtrooms.
Since joining Dufford Waldeck in 2005, Willie has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in dozens of trials and mediations involving adverse possession, easements, real estate contracts and disclosures, boundaries, leases, mineral rights, water rights, commercial contracts, business torts, shareholder liability, implied covenants in mineral development, mechanics' liens, construction contracts, trusts, and estates.
In 2021, Willie completed the Colorado Bar Association’s training course for mediators, studying mediation practice with Judy Mares-Dixon, learning to help mediation participants solve complex civil disputes.
Willie is a former president and board member of the Pro Bono Project of Mesa County and Colorado Canyons Association and a recipient of the Charlie Traylor Award in recognition of his pro bono service. Willie and his wife Sally have three children and one dog. Willie grew up in Katy, Texas, is a graduate of Brigham Young University (B.A. English 2001) and the University of Colorado School of Law (J.D. 2005), a former articles editor on the University of Colorado Law Review, an avid hiker, musician, and reader.
